Deploy and manage background tracking agents on team devices.
This guide explains how Owners and Admins deploy and manage background agents.

Overview
- Location on page: Navigate to Background Agents from the left sidebar Tools menu or by visiting
https://new.intelogos.com/backgroundagents.
The Background Agents page lets you:
- Deploy agents to Windows and macOS devices
- View all deployed agents and their key details in a sortable, resizable table
- Remove agents from your organization
- Edit agent user information
- Bulk edit multiple agents at once
- Configure Background Agent Settings (idle policies)
- Show or hide table columns and reorder them
Page elements:
- A card with a header containing the page title ("Background Agents" with a hard drive icon) and a row of action buttons on the right
- An agents data table with sortable, resizable columns and a per-row actions menu
Page Header
- Location on page: Top of the Background Agents card, right-aligned button group.
The header displays the page title on the left and four action buttons on the right (from left to right):
Bulk Edit Button
- Location on page: Page header → first icon button (pencil icon) from the left.
- Tooltip: "Bulk Edit"
- Toggles bulk edit mode on and off. When active, checkboxes appear next to each row so you can select multiple agents for batch editing. See Bulk Edit Mode for details.
Background Agent Settings Button
- Location on page: Page header → second icon button (server/cog icon).
- Tooltip: "Background agent settings"
- Opens the Background Agent Settings drawer where you configure idle-time policies. See Background Agent Settings.
Deploy Agents Button
- Location on page: Page header → third icon button (hard drive upload icon).
- Tooltip: "Deploy agents"
- Opens the Deploy Agents drawer with installation instructions for Windows and macOS. See Deploying Agents.
Select Columns Button
- Location on page: Page header → fourth icon button (columns icon).
- Tooltip: "Select columns"
- Opens a popover listing all available table columns with checkboxes to show or hide each one.
- Columns can also be reordered by dragging the grip handle next to each column name.
- Column visibility preferences are saved and persist across sessions.
Agents Table
- Location on page: Main content area of the Background Agents card, below the header.
The table displays all deployed background agents. Each row represents one agent/device.
Table Columns
Columns visible by default:

| Computer name | The hostname of the device where the agent is installed. Deactivated agents show a "Deactivated" badge below the name. |
| Computer user | The OS-level username on the device. |
| IP address | The IP address of the device (displayed in monospace). |
| Name | The agent's display name (first + last name). |
| Computer serial | The hardware serial number of the device (displayed in monospace). |
| Added on | The date the agent was first deployed. |
| Last data sent | The date the agent last transmitted data. |
| Actions | A three-dot menu with context-specific options. See Actions Menu. |
Columns hidden by default (enable via Select Columns):

Column Sorting
- Location on page: Each column header in the agents table.
- Click a column header to sort the table by that column. Click again to reverse the sort order. A sort indicator arrow appears next to the active sort column.
Column Resizing
- Location on page: Column borders (right edge of each column header).
- Drag the right edge of any column header to resize the column.
- Double-click a column's resize handle to reset it to its default width.
- Column sizes are saved and persist across sessions.
Actions Menu
- Location on page: The Actions column in each table row → click the three-dot icon (⋯) to open the dropdown menu.
Each row provides an actions dropdown with context-specific options.
Edit User
- Location on page: Actions menu → Edit user (available only for active, non-deactivated agents).
- Opens the User Information drawer with two tabs:
Personal information tab:
- Name (required)
- Last Name (required)
- Email (required)
- When an agent is linked to a user who has account access, all fields are disabled and a message advises updating via the user management page instead.
Company tab:
- Job title (required) — text input with autocomplete suggestions
- Department (required) — searchable dropdown populated from your organization's departments
Footer buttons: Cancel (closes drawer) and Save changes (saves and closes; disabled when no changes are made or when the agent is attached).
Remove Agent
- Location on page: Actions menu → Remove agent (shown in red, available for all agents including deactivated ones).
- Opens the Remove agent confirmation dialog.
Remove agent dialog contents:
- A description explaining that the agent's data will either be deleted immediately or retained for 30 days, and that you can download the time report first.
- Delete data immediately — checkbox (unchecked by default). When unchecked, data is retained for 30 days before deletion. When checked, data is deleted right away.
- Download report — secondary button to download the agent's time report before removal.
- Cancel — closes the dialog without removing.
- Confirm — removes the agent from your organization and frees a license. Disabled while removal is in progress.
After successful removal:
- The agents table refreshes automatically.
- The Uninstall Instructions dialog appears, guiding you to also remove the agent software from the device. See Uninstall Instructions.
- A View uninstall instructions icon button also becomes available inside the Remove agent dialog for reference.
Important: After removal in the app, you must also uninstall the agent from the computer. Removal in the app alone does not delete the software from the device.
Deploying Agents
The Deploy agents drawer lets you select an operating system and installation method, then displays step-by-step instructions.
All deployment methods require administrator rights on target machines or within your remote management tool.
Windows – Remote (PowerShell)
- In the Deploy agents drawer, select Windows then Remotely.
- Open your Remote Deployment tool (RMM/MDM/etc.).
- Create a new script job with administrative privileges.
- Paste the installation script from the drawer.
- Assign to devices and run/schedule.
- Verify in Background Agents after deployment (may take up to 20 minutes).
Windows – Local (MSI)
- In the Deploy agents drawer, select Windows then Locally.
- Open Windows PowerShell as Administrator.
- Copy the installation script from the drawer.
- Paste and run the command to complete installation.
- Include the verification code step (shown in the drawer) if prompted by your flow.
- Verify in Background Agents after deployment (may take up to 20 minutes).
macOS – Remote (MDM)
- In the Deploy agents drawer, select macOS then Remotely.
- Download the required files:
- Intelogos installer
- PPPC profile
- Preinstall script
- Postinstall script
- Upload these into your MDM and configure the deployment policy.
- Assign to target Macs and deploy.
- Verify in Background Agents after deployment (may take up to 20 minutes).
macOS – Local (Terminal)
- In the Deploy agents drawer, select macOS then Locally.
- Open Terminal on the target Mac.
- Copy the installation code from the drawer.
- Paste and run to complete installation.
- Verify in Background Agents after deployment (may take up to 20 minutes).
Installation Code Expiration
- Installation codes shown in the drawer expire and change every 30 days.
- If a code fails unexpectedly, re-open the drawer to copy a fresh one.
Bulk Edit Mode
- Location on page: Activated via the Bulk Edit button (pencil icon) in the page header.
Bulk Edit mode allows you to select multiple agents and update their information at once.
Entering Bulk Edit Mode
- Click the Bulk Edit button (pencil icon) in the page header. The mode persists across page reloads.
- A checkbox column appears as the first column in the table.
- Rows become clickable — click anywhere on a row to select or deselect it (except the Actions column).
- Use the header checkbox to select or deselect all visible agents.
Editing Selected Agents
- Location on page: Bottom of the table area → a floating bar appears when one or more agents are selected.
- The bar shows a badge with the number of selected agents and a Bulk edit button.
- Click Bulk edit to open the Bulk Edit drawer.
Bulk Edit drawer tabs:
Personal information tab:
- First name — text field (applies to all selected agents)
- Last name — text field
- Email — text field
- A warning is displayed when editing multiple users.
Company tab:
- Job title — searchable input
- Department — searchable dropdown
Footer buttons: Cancel and Apply Changes. A confirmation dialog ("Confirm Bulk Edit") appears before changes are applied.
Exiting Bulk Edit Mode
- Click the Bulk Edit button again to turn off the mode. All selections are cleared when exiting.
Background Agent Settings
The settings drawer contains three configuration cards:
Idle Thresholds
- Location on page: Background agent settings drawer → first card, "What should count as idle time".
- Set separate idle-time thresholds for different app categories:
- Non-communication tools — dropdown options: 10 min, 20 min, 30 min, 60 min, Disable
- Communication tools — dropdown options: 10 min, 20 min, 30 min, 60 min, Disable
Save vs Discard Idle Time
- Location on page: Background agent settings drawer → second card, "Save or discard idle time".
- How to handle idle time — dropdown options:
- Always save — idle time is counted as work time but highlighted as idle
- Always discard — idle time is not counted as work time
Automatically Discard Very Long Idle Time
- Location on page: Background agent settings drawer → third card (only visible when "Always save" is selected above).
- Discard if idle time exceeds — dropdown options: Never, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours, 6 hours, 7 hours, 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours, 11 hours, 12 hours
- Applies only when "Always save" is selected. Discards extended idle periods above the chosen threshold to maintain accurate records.
Footer buttons: Cancel (discards changes and closes) and Save settings (saves configuration; shows "Saving..." while submitting).
Deactivated Agents
- Location on page: Agents table — deactivated agents display a "Deactivated" badge below the computer name.
Deactivated agents have limited actions available:
- The Edit user option is not available in the actions menu for deactivated agents.
- The Remove agent option remains available for cleanup.
Uninstall Instructions
- Location on page: Appears automatically as a dialog after a successful agent removal. Can also be accessed via the View uninstall instructions icon button in the Remove agent dialog after removal.
The "Uninstalling the Intelogos App in Stealth Mode" dialog guides you through removing the agent software from a device.
Step 1 — Select Operating System
- Windows or macOS (radio card selection with icons).
Step 2 — Select Method
- Locally — uninstall directly on the device.
- Remotely — uninstall via MDM or remote management tool.
Instructions by OS and Method

Data Availability
After deployment, it may take up to 20 minutes for data to appear on the Background Agents page. If you do not see the new device immediately, refresh and check again later.
Troubleshooting
I can't access the Background Agents page
Cause: Insufficient permissions.
Solution: Only Owners and Admins have access.
I don't see a newly deployed device
Cause: Propagation delay post-install.
Solution: Wait up to 20 minutes and refresh.
The installation script/code didn't work
Cause: Code expired or insufficient privileges.
Solution: Ensure admin rights and copy the latest code from the drawer.
I removed an agent but it still appears active on a device
Cause: Local agent not removed from the computer.
Solution: After removal in the app, follow the Uninstall Instructions to delete the agent software from the device.
I need to edit multiple agents at once
Solution: Use Bulk Edit Mode. Click the pencil icon in the header, select the agents you want to update, then click Bulk edit in the floating bar.
I can't see certain columns in the table
Solution: Click the Select Columns button (columns icon) in the page header and enable the columns you need. Some columns (Email, Job title, Department, Platform, Agent Version) are hidden by default.
FAQs
Who can deploy or change settings?
Owners and Admins.
Does Remove agent free a license?
Yes. Also uninstall the agent from the computer using the Uninstall Instructions.
What happens when I remove an agent?
By default, data is retained for 30 days before deletion. If you check "Delete data immediately" in the removal dialog, data is deleted right away. You can download the time report before confirming.
Can I edit multiple agents at the same time?
Yes. Use Bulk Edit Mode to select multiple agents and update their Personal information or Company details in one action.
How do I show hidden columns?
Click the Select Columns button (columns icon) in the page header. Toggle any column on or off using the checkboxes, and drag to reorder columns.
Can I resize table columns?
Yes. Drag the right edge of any column header to resize. Double-click the resize handle to reset to the default width. Your column sizes are saved automatically.
What does the "Deactivated" badge mean?
A deactivated agent is no longer active. You can still remove it, but the Edit user option is not available.
