Time Doctor Alternatives in 2026: 7 Options Compared on Price, Privacy and Features

Our pick for most teams leaving Time Doctor is Intelogos (our product): it never takes screenshots or records keystrokes, measures work with seven KPIs and a Chronicle timeline instead of activity percentages, answers questions in plain language, and costs $12 per license per month billed yearly for AI Intelligence against $16.70 per user for Time Doctor Premium. Only teams that want no monitoring at all (Toggl Track), need GPS (Hubstaff) or need a security tool (Teramind) should look elsewhere.

We make Intelogos. Last updated October 7, 2026. Every price was read on the vendor's pricing page on October 7, 2026; feature and policy notes come from the vendors' pricing pages and help centers (help center articles checked September 30, 2026). We didn't test the other products hands-on, and the claims about Intelogos stick to what its pricing page, privacy policy and help center say. Every page is listed under Sources.

Summary: quick picks by need

  • Our pick: Intelogos records app, website and activity data but never screenshots, screen recordings or keystroke content, and turns it into KPIs, a Chronicle timeline and plain-language answers; $8 per license per month billed yearly ($10 monthly) for Analytics, $12 ($15) for AI Intelligence. Not a GPS or payroll tool.
  • No screenshots: Intelogos never takes them, ActivTrak offers them only as the Screen Details add-on, and DeskTime Pro doesn't include them.
  • Time tracking only: Toggl Track covers timers, billable rates and profitability reports with no screenshot or app-usage monitoring; paid plans start at $9 per user per month billed annually, and there's a free plan.
  • Enterprise operations: Teramind for data loss prevention and an on-premises option; Intelogos Enterprise for SSO/SAML, audit logs and API access without screen capture.
  • Budget: Hubstaff Starter is the lowest paid price here at $4.99 per seat per month billed annually (2-seat minimum), and Toggl Track and ActivTrak have free plans.

Time Doctor has built a solid reputation as a time tracking and employee monitoring tool, particularly for agencies, BPOs, and organizations that need strict time accountability for remote workers. Its screenshots, inactivity alerts and payroll features suit teams that bill by the hour. But some teams would rather not collect screen content at all, some want analytics beyond time and activity, and the price rises as you move up to the plans with the reports and integrations you need. This guide compares seven Time Doctor alternatives on features, pricing and trade-offs; for the analytics approach in general, see employee monitoring software from Intelogos.

Why teams leaving Time Doctor choose Intelogos

Intelogos is our pick because it measures work without the screenshots, idle pop-ups and activity percentages that send teams looking for a Time Doctor alternative:

  • No screenshots, no screen recording. Intelogos doesn't take screenshots. Intelogos doesn't record what people type; it records only whether keyboard or mouse input happened.
  • Work, not activity percentages. Seven KPIs and the Chronicle timeline show time in the tools that matter for each role, with importance categories set per department, and nothing interrupts people with a countdown.
  • Plain-language answers. Ask AI and the Intelogos MCP server on AI Intelligence let managers ask questions about the data instead of reading screenshot timelines.
  • One published price per license. $8 per license per month billed yearly ($10 monthly) for Analytics and $12 ($15) for AI Intelligence, with a free trial on both paid plans.

What Intelogos doesn't do: payroll or client invoicing. If you bill clients by the hour from the tracker, the time-tracking tools below fit better. Book a demo to see Intelogos on a sample team.

Why do teams switch from Time Doctor?

Screenshots and screen recording are built in

Every Time Doctor plan includes screenshots, and Premium adds video screen recording, which Basic and Standard customers can buy as a $3 per user per month add-on (Time Doctor's pricing page, as of October 2026). Admins choose how often screenshots are taken, can blur them, and can turn the Screencasts feature on or off for each user (Time Doctor's Screencasts help article, checked September 30, 2026). Video recordings can't be blurred, and the same help article advises deleting any screencast that contains sensitive or private information as soon as possible. If you'd rather not capture screen content at all, you need a tool that doesn't collect it in the first place.

Idle prompts and alerts interrupt work

Time Doctor's desktop app stops tracking after a period with no keyboard or mouse input: 15 minutes by default, adjustable per user from 3 minutes to 6 hours (Time Doctor's Timeout After settings article, checked September 30, 2026). A 60-second countdown comes first, and if the person is allowed to edit time, a "Were you working?" pop-up lets them add the idle period back as manual time. Standard and higher plans also add inactivity alerts and real-time notifications. That suits hourly billing, but it can interrupt people whose work involves long stretches away from the keyboard, such as reading, calls or planning.

Activity percentages miss offline work

Time Doctor shows keyboard and mouse activity, as average keystrokes and mouse movements per minute, alongside each screenshot (Screencasts help article, checked September 30, 2026). Input-based measures can't see work that happens away from the keyboard: 30 minutes spent reading a technical document or thinking through a problem registers as little or no activity. Intelogos measures keyboard and mouse activity too, as one KPI among seven, and its help center describes 20 to 50% activity as typical and healthy for most jobs (Understanding performance).

Pricing rises with the features teams use

Time Doctor lists four plans (pricing page, as of October 2026):

  • Basic: $6.67 per user per month billed annually, or $8 month to month. Includes screenshots, projects and tasks, and the timeline report.
  • Standard: $11.67 billed annually, or $14 month to month. Adds web and app usage reports, productivity ratings, attendance, payroll, inactivity alerts and 60+ integrations.
  • Premium: $16.70 billed annually, or $20 month to month. Adds video screen recording, Benchmarks AI, the Unusual Activity AI report, single sign-on and open API access.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing, with monthly and annual options.

If you need web and app usage reports, the starting price is Standard's $11.67, not Basic's $6.67. Several Premium features, including video screen recording and Benchmarks AI, are sold as $3 per user per month add-ons on Basic and Standard, and native HRIS or payroll integrations cost $200 per integration per month.

Data history depends on the plan

Time Doctor keeps historical tracking data for 3 months on Basic, 6 months on Standard and 2 years on Premium and Enterprise (pricing page, as of October 2026). If you compare performance across quarters or years, a lower plan may not keep enough history.

What about AI?

AI on its own is no longer a reason to leave. Time Doctor's home page said Time Doctor AI, which gives plain-language answers about time, activity and records, is included in every plan, and that it offers an MCP connection that brings Time Doctor data into other AI assistants (checked September 30, 2026). The more useful questions are what data each tool collects and what its AI can see.

Time Doctor Alternatives Without Screenshots

If screenshots are why you're leaving, there are three kinds of options: tools that never take them, tools that sell them as an add-on or on a higher plan, and tools where an admin switches them off.

ToolScreenshotsHow to turn them off or limit them
IntelogosNo screenshots, and no screen recordingNothing to turn off
Toggl TrackNot supported in any Toggl Track appNothing to turn off
ActivTrakOnly with the Screen Details add-onDon't add Screen Details
DeskTimePremium and Enterprise plans onlyChoose Pro, or don't enable screenshots
HubstaffIncluded on every planSet screenshot frequency to None, for everyone or per member
InsightfulIncluded; screen recording and on-demand screenshots are add-onsDisable screenshots for the organization, an employee or a project
TeramindScreen recording and live view on every planRecord only during rule violations (UAM and up)
Time DoctorIncluded on every plan; video on Premium or as an add-onTurn Screencasts off per user, or blur screenshots

From each vendor's pricing page (as of October 2026) and help center (checked September 30, 2026); see Sources.

Two things to keep in mind. A setting that turns screenshots off can be turned back on, so if you're making a promise to employees, a tool that can't capture screens is easier to explain. And screenshots aren't the only sensitive data: window titles and URLs can include document names, email subjects or search terms, and that applies to Intelogos too (privacy policy). For a longer look at the approach, see our guide to employee monitoring without screenshots.

What to Look for in a Time Doctor Replacement

Intelligence over surveillance

Some tools analyze work patterns instead of capturing screen content for someone to review. Look for:

  • Analytics that surface insights automatically
  • Natural language querying (ask questions, get answers)
  • Risk signals such as burnout risk and productivity trends
  • Automated recommendations rather than raw dashboards

Many tools, Time Doctor included, now offer an AI assistant or an MCP connection for AI tools, so compare what data the AI works from, not just whether it exists.

Privacy-respectful monitoring

Look for tools that limit what they collect:

  • No screenshots or screen recording
  • No keystroke logging
  • No distraction pop-ups that break flow
  • Transparent tracking where employees see their own data

Deep activity context

Beyond simple time tracking, the replacement should provide:

  • Window-level detail (not just "Chrome" but which specific pages)
  • Engagement measurement (how actively tools are used, not just open)
  • Intelligent tool categorization

For the device-level view of what an agent records on each computer, see user activity monitoring software.

Flexible, transparent pricing

Time Doctor gates features by plan and sells some as add-ons, so check what's included before comparing headline prices:

  • All-inclusive pricing without hidden tiers
  • Monthly billing option (no annual lock-in)
  • No per-feature add-on costs
  • Clear, published pricing

The 7 Best Time Doctor Alternatives for 2026

1. Intelogos: Our Pick, Analytics Without Screenshots

Best for: Teams that want performance analytics and AI answers without screenshots, screen recording or keystroke content

Price: Analytics $8 per license per month billed yearly, or $10 billed monthly; AI Intelligence $12 billed yearly, or $15 billed monthly; Enterprise custom (Intelogos pricing)

Intelogos is a workforce analytics platform that shows how work time is spent across apps and websites, without screenshots or keystroke logging, and lets managers ask questions about it in plain language. Instead of screenshots, it works from activity metadata: which applications, websites and windows people use, for how long, and whether the keyboard and mouse are active. Intelogos doesn't take screenshots. Intelogos doesn't record what people type; it records only whether keyboard or mouse input happened (privacy policy).

What sets it apart:

Ask AI for plain-language answers. On the AI Intelligence and Enterprise plans, managers can type questions such as "Which tools are taking up the most time?", "Which department seems to be overworked and we need to hire more?" or "Is there anyone who might be at risk of burnout?" and get a data-backed answer (Managing with AI). Every plan includes Generate Insights (5 a month on Analytics, extended on AI Intelligence), which writes a report from the page you are viewing, with a burnout, engagement and retention risk assessment. See Intelogos AI for more.

Chronicle: a timeline without screenshots. Chronicle is a chronological record of the tools and windows each person used, with time spent, keyboard and mouse activity levels and the category of each entry (Chronicle help). Owners, and Admins and Managers with Chronicle permission, can open it; regular users can't, even for themselves (Roles and access). It shows what people worked on without capturing what was on their screens.

KPIs beyond activity. Time Doctor reports keyboard and mouse activity and, from the Standard plan up, productivity ratings for web and app usage. Intelogos turns activity data into seven KPIs: Workday, Availability, Activity, Engagement, Productivity, Contribution and an Overall Rating that combines Availability, Activity, Engagement and Productivity with configurable weights (Overall Rating KPI). Looking at several KPIs together gives a fuller picture than an activity percentage alone.

No screenshots or screen recording. Intelogos never captures screen content or video, and it doesn't send distraction alerts. The one prompt its desktop agent can show is an optional idle-time question when someone returns to the computer, if an admin chooses "Let user decide" (Idle time).

Pricing compared with Time Doctor: AI Intelligence costs $12 per license per month billed yearly ($15 monthly), against $16.70 per user per month billed annually ($20 month to month) for Time Doctor Premium (as of October 2026). The plans aren't equivalent: Time Doctor Premium includes screenshots, video screen recording and single sign-on, while Intelogos never captures screen content and offers SSO/SAML on its Enterprise plan. Both offer monthly billing.

Limitations: no screenshots for teams that need proof of work, no GPS, no payroll or invoicing, and background agents for Windows and macOS only (Linux computers use the desktop agent).

2. Hubstaff: Best for GPS and Field Team Tracking

Best for: Organizations with mobile or field workers needing GPS tracking alongside time management

Price: Starter $4.99, Grow $7.50 and Team $10 per seat per month billed annually ($7, $9 and $12 billed monthly), each with a 2-seat minimum; Enterprise $25 per seat per month billed annually; 14-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee (as of October 2026)

Hubstaff is the tool on this list closest to Time Doctor: time tracking with activity levels, screenshots and payroll. Its main addition is location tracking for mobile and field teams.

Key strengths (from Hubstaff's pricing page, as of October 2026, unless noted):

  • Mobile location tracking and job sites with geofences, plus work orders and jobs, through the Locations add-on ($3.33 per seat per month billed annually; included in Enterprise)
  • Clients and invoices from Starter; payments and payroll on Team
  • Project budgets, expenses and work breaks from Grow
  • Screenshots can be switched off for everyone or per member by setting the frequency to None (Hubstaff help center, checked September 30, 2026)
  • Unusual activity detection in the Insights add-on ($2.50 per seat per month billed annually), and an MCP server, CLI and API launched September 10, 2026 that connect Hubstaff data to AI tools
  • No keystroke logging: Hubstaff measures activity levels from keyboard and mouse use without recording keystrokes

Limitations:

  • Screenshots are part of every plan: capped on Starter and Grow, no cap on Team, and up to 10 every 10 minutes with the More screenshots add-on
  • Team includes a three-month trial of Insights, which is otherwise an add-on at $2.50 per seat per month billed annually; Team with the Insights and Locations add-ons comes to $15.83 per seat per month billed annually
  • 2-seat minimum on Starter, Grow and Team; Enterprise is billed annually only

Best when: Your team includes field workers or mobile employees where location tracking matters, and you're comfortable with a tool that includes screenshots, even if you switch them off.

For more detail, see our Hubstaff alternatives guide and Hubstaff pricing analysis, or compare Intelogos and Hubstaff side by side.

3. ActivTrak: Best for Workforce Analytics Dashboards

Best for: Teams wanting productivity dashboards and benchmarking without screenshots in the base plans

Price: Free for up to 3 workers; Work Activity Tracking $10, Workforce Management $15 and Productivity Optimization $17 per worker per month, billed annually only; 14-day free trial (as of October 2026)

ActivTrak leans toward productivity analytics rather than screen capture. Screenshots and live screen views come only with the Screen Details add-on, which ActivTrak sells for its Work Activity Tracking and Workforce Management plans.

Key strengths (from ActivTrak's pricing page, as of October 2026):

  • Productivity trends and automatic activity classification on every plan, with custom classification rules on paid plans
  • Work Advisor, which the pricing page lists as conversational AI for on-demand insights in the app, on Workforce Management and Productivity Optimization
  • Team benchmarks and goals, workload balance and capacity planning, and AI-powered coaching opportunities on Productivity Optimization
  • Free plan for up to 3 workers
  • No screenshots unless you add Screen Details, and no keystroke logging

Limitations:

  • Annual contracts only; ActivTrak's pricing page says it currently only offers annual plans
  • Burnout, coaching and benchmark features need Productivity Optimization, and the AI Insights add-on costs $4 per worker per month extra
  • API access and BI dashboards need the ActivConnect add-on, and a paid support plan is required above 50 licenses

Best when: You want productivity analytics without screenshots by default and can commit to an annual contract.

For more detail, see our ActivTrak pricing analysis and ActivTrak alternatives guide, or compare Intelogos and ActivTrak side by side. Already on ActivTrak? See our guides to getting a response from ActivTrak support and leaving an ActivTrak annual contract.

4. Toggl Track: Best for Non-Invasive Time Tracking

Best for: Teams that only need to know where time goes without any monitoring overhead

Price: Free plan for a limited number of users; Starter $9 and Premium $16 per user per month billed annually ($12 and $24 billed monthly); Enterprise custom; 30-day free trial (as of October 2026)

Toggl Track is the opposite of Time Doctor on monitoring. Toggl says it doesn't support screenshot functionality or app usage monitoring in any of its apps (Toggl support, checked September 30, 2026). People start timers or log time themselves, and managers see those entries in reports. If your team only needs accurate time logs for billing or project management, Toggl Track covers that without monitoring.

Key strengths (from Toggl's pricing page, as of October 2026, unless noted):

  • No screenshots or app-usage monitoring (Toggl support, checked September 30, 2026)
  • Timers, manual entry and calendar integrations on every plan, including Free
  • Billable rates on Starter; labor cost and profitability reports, timesheet approvals and single sign-on on Premium
  • Integration with 100+ tools through its browser extension, plus an AI Task Creator and an MCP server that connects Toggl to AI assistants (checked September 30, 2026)
  • A desktop Timeline that records apps and websites for the person tracking, who decides what becomes a time entry; no other user can see it (Toggl support, checked September 30, 2026)

Limitations:

  • No productivity monitoring or analytics for managers beyond logged time
  • Managers see only the time entries people create
  • The pricing page doesn't say how many users the Free plan allows

Best when: You trust your team completely and only need time tracking for billing, project management, or payroll inputs. You have other systems for performance management. If you want attendance data alongside productivity insight, see Intelogos time and attendance software.

5. Insightful (formerly Workpuls): Best for Real-Time Monitoring Dashboards

Best for: Hybrid teams wanting real-time activity dashboards with flexible deployment options

Price: Workforce Analytics $8, Workflow Optimization $12 (in beta) and a Combo plan $16 per seat per month billed annually; Enterprise custom; month-to-month billing on select plans; free trial of 7 days (as of October 2026)

Insightful covers similar ground to Time Doctor: real-time activity, app and website usage, active and idle time, time on projects and attendance. Screenshots are available but can be disabled entirely, and screen recording is sold separately.

Key strengths (from Insightful's pricing page, as of October 2026, unless noted):

  • Real-time overview, activities timeline and engagement levels
  • Automatic clock-in and clock-out, automatic timesheets and schedule adherence
  • Hybrid work and work location insights, an AI adoption report and shadow AI detection
  • Screenshots can be turned off for the whole organization, an employee or a project (Insightful help center, checked September 30, 2026)
  • A read-only MCP server that lets Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients answer questions from your Insightful data (Insightful help center, checked September 30, 2026)
  • On-premise deployment, for 250 or more employees

Limitations:

  • Screen recording ($4 per seat per month), on-demand screenshots ($4) and more frequent screenshots ($3) are add-ons
  • Stealth mode hides the agent icon and tracks in the background without any input from the employee (Insightful help center, checked September 30, 2026)
  • Monthly prices aren't listed on the pricing page
  • Payroll and invoicing are listed as coming soon

Best when: You want Time Doctor-style visibility with finer control over screenshots, and you decide up front which capture features you'll switch on.

See how Intelogos compares as an Insightful alternative.

6. DeskTime: Best for Automatic Time Tracking With Privacy Awareness

Best for: Small to mid-size teams wanting automatic tracking with employee-friendly privacy features

Price: Pro $6.42 and Premium $9.17 per user per month billed annually, excluding VAT; monthly billing available; Enterprise custom, for 200 or more users; 14-day free trial (as of October 2026)

DeskTime tracks time automatically from its desktop app and includes Private time on every plan, which lets people take a break from tracking when needed. This acknowledges that people need breaks and personal moments during the workday without being penalized.

Key strengths (from DeskTime's pricing page, as of October 2026):

  • Automatic time tracking, idle time and offline time on every plan
  • Private time for personal breaks on every plan
  • URL, app and document title tracking on every plan
  • Project tracking and productivity calculations on every plan
  • AI summaries of daily and weekly insights on Premium and Enterprise

Limitations:

  • Screenshots come with Premium and Enterprise, enabled for the whole company or for specific users, with blur and interval options (DeskTime help center, checked September 30, 2026)
  • Shift scheduling, the absence calendar, and product management and automation integrations need Premium
  • Enterprise pricing is custom and aimed at teams of 200 or more

Best when: You want simple, automatic time tracking where employees can take private breaks, at a low per-user price. The Pro plan doesn't include screenshots at all.

7. Teramind: Best for Security-Focused Organizations

Best for: Enterprises needing employee monitoring combined with data loss prevention and insider threat detection

Price: Starter $14, UAM $28 and DLP $32 per seat per month billed annually ($15, $30 and $35 billed monthly), with a 5-seat minimum; Enterprise custom (as of October 2026)

Teramind is built for security as much as productivity. Its plans combine activity monitoring with insider threat detection and behavior rules, and the DLP plan adds data loss prevention with content-based rules and automatic blocking.

Key strengths (from Teramind's pricing page, as of October 2026, unless noted):

  • Data loss prevention with content-based rules, sensitive content detection and automatic blocking on the DLP and Enterprise plans
  • Insider threat detection on every plan, with anomaly detection and dynamic risk scoring from UAM up
  • AI conversation recording, AI data exfiltration control and agentic AI governance from UAM, and LLM content rules on DLP
  • Cloud, on-premises and private cloud (AWS or Azure) deployment (Teramind knowledge base)

Limitations:

  • Screen recording and live view on every plan, and keystroke logging from UAM up
  • Above Starter, it costs more per seat than any Time Doctor plan: UAM is $28 and DLP $32 billed annually, against $16.70 for Time Doctor Premium
  • Every plan has a 5-seat minimum; annual plans are paid upfront and aren't refundable
  • Much of the product is aimed at security and compliance teams rather than everyday productivity tracking

Best when: Security or data protection is the main reason you monitor, for example if you need data loss prevention or an on-premises deployment. If you need productivity insight rather than security tooling, see our Teramind alternatives guide or the ActivTrak vs Teramind comparison, or read about healthcare employee monitoring with Intelogos.

The cheapest plans aren't comparable with each other: Time Doctor Basic doesn't include web and app usage reports, for example, and Hubstaff Starter limits screenshots and app and URL tracking. Compare the plans that have the features you need. For 20 people billed annually, Time Doctor Premium costs $334 a month and Intelogos AI Intelligence $240.

How to Choose the Right Alternative

If You Want Analytics and Plain-Language Answers

Choose Intelogos if you want KPIs, the Chronicle timeline and AI answers without screenshots; Ask AI comes with the AI Intelligence plan. Plain-language questions about workforce data are no longer unique to one tool, though: Time Doctor, ActivTrak, Hubstaff, Insightful and Toggl Track now offer an AI assistant or an MCP connection (see the feature comparison), so compare what data each one works from. For the two dashboard-style tools, see Hubstaff vs ActivTrak.

If You Need GPS and Field Tracking

Choose Hubstaff. Its Locations add-on covers mobile location tracking, geofenced job sites, work orders and jobs. Its plans include screenshots, which admins can turn off.

If You Want Zero Monitoring (Just Time Tracking)

Choose Toggl Track. If your team only needs to log time for billing or project management and you do not want any productivity monitoring at all, Toggl Track fits that need. It doesn't offer screenshots or app-usage monitoring.

If Privacy Is Your Top Priority

Choose Intelogos. It offers KPIs, the Chronicle timeline and AI answers without screenshots, screen recording or keystroke content (privacy policy), and admins can let employees see their own data (Roles and access).

If Security Is Your Top Priority

Choose Teramind if you need data loss prevention, insider threat detection or an on-premises deployment.

If You Want the Lowest Cost

Hubstaff Starter has the lowest paid price here: $4.99 per seat per month billed annually, with a 2-seat minimum. Toggl Track and ActivTrak have free plans, ActivTrak's for up to 3 workers. DeskTime Pro, at $6.42 per user per month billed annually, adds automatic tracking and Private time without screenshots.

Migration Guide

Exporting data from Time Doctor

Before you cancel, export what you want to keep:

  • Reports: go to Reports > Custom Export, available on every Time Doctor plan to Owners, Admins and Managers, and export CSV, XLS or PDF files (Time Doctor's Custom Export article, checked September 30, 2026)
  • Project data: export project and task time for the periods you need
  • Users: keep a list of users, groups and settings to recreate in the new tool
  • Screenshots: download any you need for billing records from the Screencasts page

Time Doctor says account data stays accessible for up to 6 months after the termination date (Time Doctor's cancellation article, checked September 30, 2026). Its refund policy says refunds aren't granted after the trial period ends, apart from service interruptions or cancellation requests that weren't processed (Time Doctor's refund policy, checked September 30, 2026), so time the switch around your renewal date.

Transition timeline

Here's an example timeline; how long yours takes depends mostly on how you deploy agents:

DayAction
1Create new account, configure teams and departments
2 to 3Deploy agents to employee devices
4 to 5Configure tool classifications, verify data collection
6 to 7Run parallel with Time Doctor to validate
8 and afterDecommission Time Doctor

With Intelogos, employees can install the desktop agent from an invitation email, or admins can deploy background agents to Windows and macOS computers remotely through MDM or RMM tools; new devices appear within about 20 minutes (Background agents guide).

Communicating the switch to your team

The switch from Time Doctor to a privacy-first tool is a positive message. Frame it as:

  • Moving away from screenshot monitoring to a more respectful approach
  • Using the data for coaching and workload decisions rather than screenshot reviews
  • Giving employees access to their own productivity data, which Intelogos admins can turn on (Roles and access)

Tell people exactly what the new tool collects and what it doesn't, in plain language. For Intelogos, the privacy policy lists both, and our employee monitoring policy template and consent form turns that into a notice you can adapt with counsel.

Some states also require written notice. New York's Civil Rights Law section 52-c requires employers that monitor employees' phone, email or internet use to give written notice on hiring, have employees acknowledge it and post the notice (N.Y. Civil Rights Law § 52-c, checked September 30, 2026). Connecticut requires employers that use electronic monitoring to give prior written notice of the types of monitoring, with limited exceptions (Conn. Gen. Stat. § 31-48d, checked September 30, 2026). Rules differ by state and country, and a new tool may collect different data than the old one; our guide to employee monitoring laws by state covers more of them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best alternative to Time Doctor?

It depends on why you're leaving. For analytics without screenshots, Intelogos (our product) records app, website and activity data but never screenshots, screen recordings or keystroke content, and its AI Intelligence plan costs $12 per license per month billed yearly, against $16.70 per user per month billed annually for Time Doctor Premium (as of October 2026). For field teams, Hubstaff adds mobile location tracking and geofenced job sites. For time tracking without monitoring, Toggl Track doesn't take screenshots or track app usage. For security, Teramind adds data loss prevention.

Who are Time Doctor's main competitors?

Time Doctor competes with other time tracking and employee monitoring tools. The ones this guide compares are Hubstaff, which pairs time tracking with activity levels, screenshots and payroll; DeskTime, which tracks time automatically and offers screenshots on Premium; Insightful, with real-time monitoring and optional screenshots; ActivTrak, which leans toward productivity analytics; Teramind, which adds security and data loss prevention; and Toggl Track, a time tracker without monitoring. Intelogos, which publishes this guide, competes on analytics without screenshots. Prices for all of them are as of October 2026.

Is there a Time Doctor alternative without screenshots?

Yes. Intelogos never captures screenshots or screen recordings, and Toggl Track doesn't support screenshots in any of its apps. ActivTrak offers screenshots only through its Screen Details add-on, and DeskTime includes them only on Premium and Enterprise, so its Pro plan has none. Hubstaff and Insightful include screenshots but let admins switch them off, which a later admin can reverse. For more on privacy-first monitoring, see our guide on employee monitoring without screenshots.

What are the best Time Doctor alternatives for enterprise operations?

For enterprise operations, look at the plans with security and administration features. Intelogos Enterprise adds SSO/SAML, audit logs, custom data retention, API access and a dedicated account manager, and its background agents deploy through MDM or RMM tools. Teramind Enterprise adds OCR of screen content and runs in the cloud, on-premises or in a private cloud. ActivTrak offers Entra ID and SCIM user management on annual contracts, and Insightful offers on-premise deployment from 250 employees. Enterprise pricing for all four comes from sales.

Which Time Doctor alternative is best for time tracking only?

If you only need time logs for billing or payroll, Toggl Track is the simplest: timers, manual entry, billable rates and no monitoring, from $9 per user per month billed annually, with a free plan for a limited number of users. DeskTime Pro ($6.42) tracks time automatically with private time for breaks, and Hubstaff Starter ($4.99 per seat, 2-seat minimum) is the cheapest paid option, though it includes screenshots you would turn off (all as of October 2026).

Is there a free Time Doctor alternative?

Partly. Toggl Track has a free plan for a limited number of users, ActivTrak's free plan covers up to 3 workers with 30 days of data history, and Hubstaff's help center describes a Free plan for one person (pricing pages as of October 2026; Hubstaff help center checked September 30, 2026). None of these covers a whole team's monitoring for free. Intelogos has no free plan; both paid plans start with a free trial, and Analytics costs $8 per license per month billed yearly.

Does Time Doctor take screenshots?

Yes. Screenshots are part of every Time Doctor plan. They're taken at random times within an interval the admin chooses, can be blurred, and can be turned on or off for each user. Video screen recording comes with Premium or as a $3 per user per month add-on on Basic and Standard (Time Doctor's pricing page as of October 2026 and its Screencasts help article, checked September 30, 2026). Video recordings can't be blurred, and Time Doctor advises deleting any screencast that contains sensitive information.

How much does Time Doctor cost in 2026?

Time Doctor lists four plans: Basic at $6.67 per user per month billed annually ($8 month to month), Standard at $11.67 ($14), Premium at $16.70 ($20) and Enterprise at custom pricing (as of October 2026). Web and app usage reports start on Standard, and video screen recording, Benchmarks AI and the Unusual Activity report come with Premium or as $3 per user per month add-ons. Native HRIS and payroll integrations cost $200 per integration per month, and data history runs from 3 months on Basic to 2 years on Premium.

Which Time Doctor alternative has the best AI features?

Intelogos is built around AI analysis of activity data: Ask AI, on the AI Intelligence plan, answers plain-language questions about your workforce, and Generate Insights reports flag burnout, engagement and retention risks. Time Doctor's home page said Time Doctor AI is included in every plan (checked September 30, 2026). ActivTrak offers Work Advisor on its $15 and $17 plans, DeskTime has AI summaries on Premium, Hubstaff's Insights add-on includes unusual activity detection, and Hubstaff, Insightful and Toggl Track offer MCP servers for AI assistants.

Can I switch from Time Doctor mid-subscription?

Yes, but plan around your renewal date. Time Doctor offers monthly and annual billing, and its refund policy says refunds aren't granted after the trial period ends, apart from service interruptions or cancellation requests that weren't processed (checked September 30, 2026). Time Doctor says account data stays accessible for up to 6 months after termination, so export reports first. Most alternatives offer free trials: Hubstaff, ActivTrak and DeskTime 14 days, Toggl Track 30 days and Insightful 7 days (as of October 2026), and Intelogos has a free trial too.
